The BWTC application provides automated data and risks analysis that supports governance and inspection decision making by maritime nations. Currently, inspection decisions are based primarily on arbitrary, random, and incidental criteria and decisions not to inspect rely entirely on the representations of the vessel’s master. Transport Canada inspects ten percent of arrivals but does so without relevant and systematic information on the past or recent BWT behavior of the ship, the master, and the shipping company.
Our BWTC application analyzes the arriving vessel’s Ballast Water Treatment reported information against all past reporting and compliance history of that vessel, the vessel’s master, the shipping company, and the BWT history that can be inferred from AIS data history of the vessel’s current voyage. The result of this analysis will be a risk score that helps to better prioritize and justify inspections.
