Research Chair and Professor

    Prof. Stan Matwin is the Director of the Institute for Big Data Analytics at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and a Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) at the Faculty of Computer Sciences. He is also Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, University of Ottawa and Professor at the Institute of Computer Science, Polish Academy of Sciences. He holds the titles ‘Fellow of the European Coordinating Committee on AI’ and ‘Fellow of the Canadian AI Association (CAIAC)’. He is internationally recognized for his work in machine learning, text and data mining.

    Fernando Paulovich

    Canada Research Chair and Professor

      Dr. Paulovich is an associate professor and Canada Research Chair in Data Visualization at the Faculty of Computer Science, Dalhousie University, and head of the Visualization and Visual Analytics (VVA) lab. Over the past ten years, he has been conducting research in the field of computational visualization, more specifically information visualization, visual analytics and visual data mining. His focus is on integrating machine learning and visualization tools and techniques, helping people to understand and take full advantage of this “brave new information world.

        Dr. Soares has his Ph.D. from the Federal University of Pernambuco (Recife- Brazil) in 2016 and currently works as a postdoctoral fellow at Big Data Analytics Institute. He has experience with both academia and the private sector. His current interests include trajectory segmentation, classification, enrichment and visualization.

        Mohammad Etemad

        Mohammad Etemad

        Project Manager

          Mohammad Etemad is conducting research related to spatiotemporal data mining with a focus on processing AIS data. His research interests include mobility data analysis, data mining, and spatiotemporal data semantics. Mohammad has over a decade of work experience having previously founded and grown a successful 20-person software development and systems integration business with clients in the healthcare, manufacturing, utilities, and wireless network sectors. He is a certified Project Manager Professional (PMP) and working with PMI Nova Scotia chapter as a director of technology and website. Mohammad will concentrate on software development, project management and planning along with helping to creating state-of-art algorithms for enriching the potential of Ballast Water Exchange data for environmental threat detection.
